REPresent: Repertoire for horn by underrepresented composers
For the last few years I have been collecting the names of works written by composers who have been traditionally marginalized by Classical music, such as women and people of color. Here you will find the product of my effort, organized by genre. These lists can never truly be complete, so I will expand on them as frequently as I can. Please reach out to me if you notice any errors, are aware of any additional works I can include, or are a composer who would like their works either added or removed from this list!
I am, of course, indebted to the work of Lin Foulk, whose pioneering website includes works for horn specifically by women composers. It was my aim to expand upon her project, not to replace it, so I encourage anyone interested in horn repertoire to visit her site as well! Another amazing resource is Ashley Killam’s equivalent site for trumpet and brass ensembles, found here.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me to publish my research for the last several years and who have waited patiently for me to work up the nerve. I hope that this tool will serve only as a starting point for performers, educators, and listeners who are interested in uplifting musical voices who deserve to be heard.
