'In the Forest I Wound My Horn'
Hi everyone!
It’s been a while since I shared any news with you, which is not unsurprising due to the lack of performance opportunities during a pandemic! However, I would like to share my DMA essay with any visitors to the site. It’s titled “In the Forest I Wound My Horn: Studies in the Gender Semiotics of Horn in Classical and Romantic Orchestral Literature,” and deals largely with the ways composers during this period communicated gendered meanings (either consciously or unconsciously) through instrumentation.
This project was a labor of love that took a full two years to research and to write, and much support from my professors, specifically Dr. Marysol Quevedo, Richard Todd, Valerie Coleman and Timothy Conner. I cannot express my gratitude enough to these amazing minds and mentors for all of their guidance! If you are interested in reading my paper, an open access version is available here. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or comments!
